The 3rd Annual Campus Life Dodgeball Tournament saw its fiercest competition yet as 10 teams battled it out to be crowned this year’s champions.
The following teams participated in the much anticipated tournament:
Santa and his Ballers
The newcomers to the tournament, Santa and his Ballers, made waves in the tournament as they made it all the way to the championship game. Led by captain, Connor Achim, these guys definitely brought some holiday spirit to the tournament!
5 Second Delay
The chess team has entered the building! Five Second Delay, led by Michael Schirle, didn’t delay in bringing the heat. Unfortunately, their self-inflicted rule to only move in the ways that chess pieces move added another level of difficulty to their play.
The Cutoffs
There was a big debate at the tournament over the Cutofff's uniforms. Did they wear cutoffs to give them an advantage in their throwing movement or did they do it to air out their pits? I guess we will never know. But one thing we do know is that the Cutoffs, with captain Emily Ludwig, brought their game!
The “A” Team
There is a reason that the “A” team chose this specific letter over the rest of the alphabet. Being literature enthusiasts as they are, they couldn’t help but dedicate their uniforms to the renowned book, the Scarlet Letter. With the ‘A’ Team, led by Marlee Carney, only losing one game in the season, they went into the playoff as the #2 seed. Unfortunately, a close loss in the semi-finals derailed their hopes of coming away with the trophy.
3 Pete
Most people would guess that 3 Pete’s name was inspired by their desire to win their third Dodgeball championship in a row. And most people would be right. You could say that with a name like that, 3 Pete, led by captain Drew Dimos, didn’t have many friends in the tournament. They faced a tough schedule during the season and went into the playoffs as the #5 seed. They unexpectedly lost in the first round to they Gym leaders, thus ending their run for their third championship ring (metaphorical ring that is).
Gym Leaders
The Gym leaders impressed the uniform judges as they entered the tournament with their pokemon inspired outfits. Regardless of the fact that it seems to have no connection to their name, the Gym leaders, led by Noelle Rich, won the award for best team uniforms and had a three peat of her own, as her team has won this award every year since the tournament began. Make sure you check out the pics to see these award winning uniforms!
Fallen Angels
The Fallen Angels struck fear into their opponents as they entered the courts with their dark uniforms outfitted with large black wings. There was some initial worry by the refs that maybe these angels, led by Christine Vandeburg, would play dirty given their fallen status. But, fortunately they kept it together and withheld any temptation to knock their opponents out of the game.
Sonic Elite
Inspired by that cute little hedghog we have all come to adore in one of the most famous video game series ever made, Sonic Elite, with captain Mike Zito, were more intent in showing off the vicious side of that well-known blue ball of fur. We also learned that relying on Sonic’s favorite “roll in a ball” move doesn’t translate well to the dodgeball arena.
Off in the Corner
Don’t let their name fool you. Off in the Corner, led by Tom Kern, were all over the court as they gave many in the tournament a hard time with their late entry and their competitive play.
Duck, Duck, Goose
These guys didn’t show up just to play kid’s games. Duck, Duck, Goose, led by Nick Garvey, came to play as they not only entered the playoffs as the number one seed, but also went on to win three straight games to come away as the 2011 Campus Life Dodgeball Champions!
A big thanks to all the refs who gave their time and for to the YMCA for hosting our event!
