Open Mic Night

Last Monday the Warehouse was packed for Open Mic Night, as a highly talented line-up of ten students showcased their talents in music, drama and poetry.

Kevin Kulat started us off with some smooth jazz electric guitar followed by Rebecca McDonald’s ukulele rendition of Katy Perry’s “The One that got Away.” Amy Pniewski performed a heart-felt monologue based on losing a father. And Michelle Libby got the crowd singing with her performance on the harp, playing the tune “Don’t Stop Believin” by Journey.

It was Amanda Coppotelli’s first performance at Campus Life but she impressed the audience with her cover of “Take the Box” by Amy Winehouse. She was followed by Sarah Nicols who performed an original poem called “Hands.” Anna Burton along with Kevin Kulat were a sweet duo as they played “Airplanes” by The Local Natives. Machaela Sullivan then finished up the competition round with her mashup of “Back to December” by Taylor Swift and “Never Told You” by Colbie Caillat, which ended up winning her the award of best performer of the night as she received the most text-in votes from the audience.

We then got to hear from Darrion Jackson as he debuted two of his tracks off his upcoming album: “It’s Never Green” & “A Fire Feels Nice.” The songs were both pretty chill with thoughtful lyrics and catchy melodies. Nick Garvey then finished up the night with two originals as well with “This Grinding Road” and “Brand New Day.”

A big thanks to everyone who came out and supported the artists. We are already looking forward to our next Open Mic!!
