Summer Smash-Up 2009 was an incredible experience, with over 100 people packed into the Warehouse for a brutal heavy metal show!
Campus Life welcomed Georgia natives Becoming the Archetype to the Warehouse on their way to Cornerstone Festival, as well as their tour-mates Black Pajent of Wyoming. Becoming the Archetype is currently touring in support of "Dichotomy", their third full-length studio album with Solid State Records. Opening their set with a roaring cover of "How Great Thou Art", they played for nearly an hour as they performed a variety of tracks off of all three albums. The crowd was really energetic and impressed the band so much that lead singer/bassist Jason Wisdom actually asked form the stage if they could play at the Warehouse again!!
Black Pajent was an excellent and energetic show as well, combining singing, screaming, and a bit of hand-clapping. :) The band previous to them in the lineup, Afterimage, are from Barrington and it was great getting to know yet another amazing local band... they had to play without a drummer, but no one could tell from the music that anything was amiss. They played a fast and furious mix of thrash and metalcore, and made a few dozen new fans, if the response was any indication! The opening band Behold The Throne are from Glen Ellyn and relative newcomers to the scene. This was their second appearance at the Warehouse, as they had played previously during the Night of Metal at STRIVEFEST 2008. And last, but certainly not least, we paid tribute to bands who have played in basements and garages just for the love of music, and had local band Double Decker Turkey Burger play a good old-fashioned floor show after the doors opened to fill time and pump up the crowd for the 'big show' at 7PM.
All in all, it was a fantastic show, and all of you that came out to support Campus Life made it happen! Thanks again to everyone who attended, and stay tuned for updates on the next shows!
